Iran REALLY loves Firefox 3

Mozilla drummed up a whole heckuva lot of attention with its public release of Firefox 3 yesterday.
Most notably, it encouraged new Firefox downloaders around the world to sign up for “Download Day,” as part of its attempt to set a Guinness Record for most software downloaded in 24 hours.
So far (Wednesday, 2 a.m.), Mozilla has racked up a grand total of 4,865,347 downloads worldwide.
But looking at the global statistics, there’s one curious outlier: Iran. The Islamic Republic has so far registered 136,656 downloads, putting it at Number 5 in terms of countries with the most Firefox downloads.
And with more downloads than China, Germany, and England, Iran is making it clear that, yes, it really genuinely loves its Firefox.
So we’re not so different, them and us… us and them. Which means not only has Firefox “changed the way we use the web,” but for me, it’s changed the way we use our hearts. (”Oprah moment” quota met for the week.)

You guys should know that population of a country doesn’t represent their government necessarily. So this grand discovery is not like you found cave men with electricity in their caves! This is just a small moment of truth without thick layer of prejudice that western media normally put on Iran’s coverage.
